WeatherNow Privacy Policy
Effective October 27, 2026
WeatherNow is built to show you the weather without collecting more than it needs. There's no account, no advertising, and no tracking. This page explains what the app and the WeatherNow server handle, why, and how to delete it.
No account, no tracking
- You don't sign up. If you use notifications, chat or WeatherNow Plus, the server gives your iPhone a random ID. It isn't connected to your name, email or Apple ID.
- WeatherNow doesn't use advertising identifiers, analytics companies or trackers, and doesn't sell or share data for advertising.
Your location
- On your iPhone: your precise location stays on the device. WeatherNow keeps only your latest location, rounded to about 110 m, and no history.
- Forecasts: the app sends the WeatherNow server an approximate location, rounded to about 1 km. Free forecast requests carry no ID. Plus requests carry the random ID so the server can check your subscription. Forecasts are kept by area, not by person.
- Notifications: if you turn them on, the server keeps your approximate location (about 1 km) and the places you chose, so it can check for alerts while the app is closed. Only the latest point is kept.
- Background updates are off unless you turn them on. They use iOS's low-power location service, not continuous GPS.
- You can use WeatherNow with no location access by searching for places.
Weather and map services
To show weather, your iPhone or the WeatherNow server contacts these services:
- Apple (Maps, and naming places), under Apple's privacy policy.
- The US National Weather Service for official alerts, with your location rounded to about 110 m.
- NOAA nowCOAST and the Iowa Environmental Mesonet for radar and satellite pictures, and Esri for the Satellite map. They receive the map area you're viewing, not your location, and, like any website, your device's internet address.
- Open-Meteo, NOAA and the National Weather Service for forecast data. These requests come from the server, by area.
- Weather news: the server reads the news feeds of the National Hurricane Center, NOAA, NASA and ScienceDaily, with nothing about you. Story pictures load on your iPhone straight from NOAA's, NASA's and the hurricane center's websites, and a story you open loads from its publisher's website in Safari. Like any website, they see your device's internet address.
WeatherNow Plus
- Apple handles payment. WeatherNow never sees your card or Apple ID.
- When you subscribe, renew or restore, the app sends the server Apple's signed purchase record. The server keeps the product, expiry date and Apple's transaction number with your random ID, to know you're a subscriber. Apple also tells the server about renewals, cancellations and refunds.
- AI forecasts are written for an area (about 10 km) from weather data only. No personal information is sent to the AI provider.
- Chat: your questions, the earlier messages in that conversation and the place being asked about (about 1 km) go to the server and to its AI provider, Anthropic, to write the answer. The server doesn't keep conversations. Anthropic processes them under its own privacy policy and commercial terms.
Crash reports
If the app crashes or freezes, iOS gives it a technical report (what went wrong and in which part of the app, the app and iOS versions, and the iPhone model). WeatherNow sends it to the server without any ID so the problem can be fixed. Reports are deleted after 30 days. You can turn this off in Settings → Location & Privacy.
How long data is kept
- Everything stored for your random ID (notification settings, places, push token, subscription status) is deleted after 60 days without opening the app, or right away when you delete it.
- Records of sent notifications: 7 days. Crash reports: 30 days.
- Server logs record which address was requested and whether it worked, never your location, ID or messages.
Your choices
In the app under Settings → Location & Privacy you can:
- see exactly what the server stores about your iPhone,
- turn off location use, location in chat, or crash reports,
- delete your data on the server, or delete all WeatherNow data.
Deleting the app removes its data from your iPhone; data on the server is then deleted after 60 days, or you can ask us to delete it sooner.
Children
WeatherNow isn't directed at children under 13 and doesn't knowingly collect their personal information.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date.
